Thailand comes to Menlyn Maine
The annual Thai Festival takes place this week on Friday and Saturday [18 and 19 August] at Menlyn Maine,

diplomatic relationship with South Africa.
Thailand has much to offer everyone – from corporate executives in search of an ultra-luxurious respite, to the intrepid backpacker hoping to explore beyond the beaten track. With its spectacular scenery, cultural and culinary offering, Thailand lends itself as the perfect holiday destination of choice.
To give you a taste of what this destination offers, and to celebrate the South Africa/Thai diplomatic relationship, the Royal Thai Embassy to South Africa will be hosting their annual Thai Festival at Menlyn Maine in Pretoria East on 18 and 19 August 2017. Featuring a Thai cultural dance troupe with over 25 artists, umbrella and Batik painting workshops, Thai silk fashion show, Muay Thai demonstrations, fruit and food tasting. Visitors will have the chance to win one of two holidays to Thailand, each consisting of two economy class air tickets and seven nights’ accommodation for
two people.
In his pre-event preparation remarks, His Excellency, Ambassador Dr. Pornchai Danvivathana highlighted: “This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the Diplomatic Relations between South Africa and Thailand. Both countries have long shared and enjoyed cordial political and economic ties. Through this Festival, we are opening the new aspect of relationship and cooperation through cultural and people-to- people diplomacy.” As a testament to the deep-rooted relations with the people and business community of South Africa, The Thai Festival 2017 will be hosted by Menlyn Maine, which showcases the best in South African design ingenuity. Says Vicky Denyschen, Head of Precinct and Property: “Menlyn Maine, the first green city on the African continent, and one of only 19 in the world, is very proud to offer its hospitality to the Royal Thai Embassy. We trust that this occasion will serve to deepen the bond between our two countries.”
There are two fabulous prizes to be won, to the value of R40 000 each, sponsored by The Tourism Authority of Thailand and partner hotels in Phuket and Khao Lak. With so much on offer, this festival is an experience not to be missed.
The festival takes place on the central piazza, Central Square Menlyn Maine on 18 and 19 August from 10h00 to 16h00 daily.
